The purpose of the Council is to bring together members of the professional scientific, engineering, technical, and educational societies in the northeastern Ohio area:
 
- to provide a forum to discuss and act on matters of mutual concern
- to serve as a contact between the business community and the technical & educational communities
- to promote collaborative activities among societies
- to encourage careers in the technical & educational professions
- to coordinate programs to support mathematics, science and engineering education
- to recognize individuals in the scientific, engineering, technical & educational communities
- to match the skills and interests of the volunteers to the tasks that advance the goals of the member societies, and
- to develop programs to sustain the diversity of its people and the needs of our region
