Honeywell Chemical Process Engineers

At Metropolis Works, refined uranium ore is converted into uranium hexa-fluoride (UF6) through a series of process steps. The processing includes the use of several highly hazardous chemicals as well as the control of the source material. The chemicals used are anhydrous HF, anhydrous NH3, gaseous H2 and F2 and high molarity KOH.
The site is regulated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission due to the presence of the uranium products and plays a unique role in the US nuclear power cycle. Market conditions are positive based on the current number of new and renewed license applications for nuclear power generation plants in the US and overseas, and therefore, the plant is currently planning significant efforts around capacity growth and automation. The site is staffed by Operators and Mechanics belonging to the USW union.
